This article contains the FAQs for the ZU630 Series Shark® Rotator® Powered Lift-Away®. This supports the following product SKUs ZU630 and ZU632.

How and when do I adjust the suction?

The suction control slider located on the top of the handle allows you to adjust the suction. You can choose the optimal suction level for both bare floors and carpets. Slide to MIN to reduce suction and increase maneuverability on carpets. Slide to MAX to increase suction on bare floors.

How do I access and clean the brushroll?

To access and clean your brushroll:

  1. Make sure your vacuum is unplugged.
  2. Remove the pod and wand from the floor nozzle and turn over the floor nozzle so the bottom is facing up.
  3. Locate the 3 locks on the bottom of the nozzle. With a coin, turn the locks counterclockwise to open, then lift up the cover.
  4. With scissors, carefully cut away any hair wrapped around the brushroll. Check for any debris in the nozzle and remove if needed.
  5. Close the cover completely, pressing firmly on all sides, and use the coin to turn the 3 locks clockwise. Note: Do not vacuum wet messes.
How do I assemble my vacuum?

To assemble your vacuum:

  1. Place the pod onto the floor nozzle and press down until it clicks into place.
  2. Insert the wand into the pod.
  3. Insert the handle into the wand.
  4. Attach the hose clip to the wand.
  5. Connect the hose to the back of the pod.

For proper operation, ensure all parts are firmly clicked into place.

How do I clean above floors with or without accessories?

To clean with the handle: Press the Handle Release button near the top of the wand. Gently pull up on the handle to remove it from the wand.

For more cleaning reach, leave the handle on the wand, and detach the wand from the floor nozzle and pod. Press the Wand Release button on the back of the pod, then gently pull up on the handle to remove the wand. Attach an accessory to the handle or the wand and begin cleaning.

How do I use the different cleaning modes?

For bare floors and delicate area rugs:

  1. Press the power button on the vacuum pod to turn on suction.
  2. On the handle, slide the floor selector to Hard Floor.
  3. To activate the brushroll, gently step on the floor nozzle and tilt the handle back.

Note that the brushroll will spin slower in Hard Floor mode.

For thick carpet and area rugs:

  1. Press the power button on the vacuum to turn on suction.
  2. On the handle, slide the floor selector to Thick Carpet/Area Rug.
  3. To activate the brushroll, gently step on the floor nozzle and tilt the handle back.

For carpets / low pile:

  1. Press the power button on the vacuum to turn on the suction.
  2. On the handle, slide the floor selector to Carpet/Low Pile.
  3. To activate the brushroll, gently step on the floor nozzle and tilt the handle back.

The brushroll will spin faster in Carpet/Low Pile mode.

What happens if I experience small static shocks while vacuuming?

Certain dry temperatures in winter or dry desert areas may cause common static electricity to build up in the vacuum, producing small shocks, similar to what you might experience from contact with doorknobs, wool sweaters, or blankets. This is harmless. In order to avoid this, we recommend moisturizing your hands and/or removing wool socks or sweaters prior to vacuuming.

When and how do I clean the filters?

Filters may need to be cleaned if the vacuum stops picking up dirt, if airflow is restricted, or if you notice lighter or no suction. For optimal performance, clean filters regularly. Between cleanings, lightly tap filters over a trash receptacle to remove dust and debris as needed. Rinse the pre-motor foam and felt filters every 3 months, or as needed.

  1. First, remove the dust cup to access the pre-motor filters.
  2. Slide up the release latches on both sides of the dust cup handle. Lift the dust cup up and away from the pod.
  3. Remove the foam and felt filters.
  4. Rinse both filters with water only.
  5. Allow filters to air-dry completely (at least 24 hours) before reinstalling.
  6. Once dry, install the felt filter first, followed by the foam filter.
  7. Reinstall the dust cup by placing the bottom of the dust cup into the pod and then tilting until it clicks into place.

Rinse the post-motor HEPA filter every 12 months, or as needed.

  1. Pull the latch under the HEPA filter cover and lift off the cover.
  2. Remove the HEPA filter.
  3. Rinse with water only.
  4. Allow filter to air-dry completely (at least 24 hours) before reinstalling.
  5. Once dry, reinstall the HEPA filter.
  6. Reattach the HEPA filter cover until it clicks into place.
When and how do I empty the dust cup?

For optimal performance, empty the dust cup each time you vacuum, or when debris reaches the MAX FILL line.

  1. Slide up the release latches on both sides of the dust cup handle. Lift the dust cup up and away from the pod.
  2. Hold the dust cup over the trash and press the bottom door release button on the front.
  3. Tap gently to empty contents.
  4. Close the dust cup door, pressing it until it clicks into place.
  5. Press the top door release button near the Max Fill line. Remove any debris and ensure the metal cone is clear of debris.
  6. Wipe the interior of the dust cup clean.
  7. To reinstall, place bottom of dust cup into the pod and then tilt until it clicks into place.
