Air Purifier Maintenance Tips and Most Common Inquiries

How to maintain your Shark Air Purifier

1. Dust the exterior and the interior periodically with a microfiber cloth. See detailed steps below.
2. DO NOT wash your HEPA filter.
3. If your model has a dust filter, clean the filters every 1-2 months. See detailed steps below.
4. If your model has AUTO mode, Shark® recommends leaving your unit in this mode to maximize your air purifier's filter life and performance.
5. For HP and HC models, we recommend reorienting your HEPA filter every three months to maximize its life. This will help equalize the distribution of captured particles throughout the filter, helping to extend its life.
  • Remove the HEPA filter
  • Turn it upside down
  • Reinsert the HEPA, making sure that the side that was previously on top is now on the bottom.

How to clean your exterior and interior

  • For best results, clean the air purifier every two months or more often if necessary.
    • To clean dust from the exterior, use a microfiber cloth to remove debris from the surface of the unit.
    • To sanitize the exterior, wipe down the exterior with a warm, soapy cloth. Avoid excess water and abrasive chemical cleaners to prevent damage.
  • When cleaning dust from the interior, lift off the HEPA filter cover, remove the HEPA filter, and use a vacuum cleaner or a microfiber cloth to remove dust and debris from the interior of the unit.

DO NOT use abrasive chemical cleaners on the inside of the unit.

DO NOT insert cleaning instruments into the fan outlet.

How to clean your dust filters (HP070, HP150, HP300 and UA1450 only)

The dust filter generally requires maintenance every 1-2 months.

  • Gently slide up the mesh dust filter to remove it. Check the screen for dust and debris buildup.
  • Use a vacuum cleaner on low speed with a soft brush attachment or a cloth/towel to remove debris from the dust filter.
    • DO NOT use abrasive chemical cleaners.
  • If additional cleaning is required, rinse the dust filter with room temperature tap water. Be sure to completely dry it for 12 hours before re-installing.
    • It is recommended NOT to use the air purifier during this dry time to prevent damaging the HEPA filter.
  • Gently reinsert the mesh dust filter into the slot on either side of the air purifier.
  • To manually reset the 'Check Dust Filters' indicator, press and hold the filter icon on the top control panel for 1.5 seconds.
  • Refer to the maintenance instructions in the instruction booklet for more information.

Most Common Inquiries

If the below steps do not resolve your issue, search above with your model number for more specific troubleshooting or contact support for more assistance.

Air quality always 0 / Air quality never 100

If your air quality is always at 0% or never reaches 100, you many need to clean the area around the sensor.

Turn off the air purifier and unplug it. Locate the air quality sensor on the back side. <image> Open the sensor door, use a hand vacuum or vacuum hose with attachment to clean the area around the air quality sensor.

Also, remove any environmental factors (e.g. blow out any burning candles, turn off humidifiers, close windows or exterior doors).

Air quality always 100

Ensure the air purifier is set up at least 3 inches (10 cm) away from a wall. Then, spray perfume or an aerosol cleaning spray near the sensor on the back. Do not spray the air purifier directly. Next, turn off the air purifier and restart it, allowing the unit to calibrate for 20 seconds.

If that doesn’t work, move the air purifier to a new room in your home at least 20 ft. away from the original location. Plug the unit in and let it run for 24 hours.

No power

Turn off the air purifier and unplug. Wait 30 seconds, then plug the unit into an outlet that you've verified is working with another device.

Unit makes a strange noise

Remove the filter door from the unit and check to make sure the filter inside the air purifier is removed from its sealed plastic packaging. Then, make sure the air purifier is on a flat surface. If it is still making a noise, remove the HEPA filter and use a vacuum cleaner or a microfiber cloth to remove dust and debris from the interior of the unit.
