Most Common Inquiries

If the below steps do not resolve your issue, search above with your model number for more specific troubleshooting or contact support for more assistance.

No or low suction

If you are noticing no or low suction, turn off your vacuum and unplug it.

Empty the dust cup and tap clean any filters over the trash to remove any excess dirt and other particles. Wash pre-motor and HEPA filters then dry them completely for 24 hours before reinstalling them in the unit.

Check the vacuum’s hose, wand, pod, dust cup, handle and nozzle for any blockages or clogs.

Vacuum will not turn on or turns off on its own

Many Shark vacuums are equipped with a motor protective thermostat. For those models, if your vacuum overheats, the thermostat will automatically turn the unit off. Wait 60 minutes for the vacuum to cool.

Check your headlight indicator lights (see more info below) and inspect the power cord for any damage. If there is none, make sure all the pieces of your unit are connected properly and that you hear an audible click when assembling them. Then plug your vacuum into a different outlet and turn on.

Solid/Flashing red light

Solid Red - If your headlight indicator is solid red, there is a jam in the brushroll area. Turn off the vacuum, unplug it, then remove any blockages or debris in the nozzle. If the debris has been sucked into the nozzle, spinning the brushroll by hand may help you dislodge it.

Flashing Red - If your headlight indicator is flashing red, the motorized floor nozzle overheated. Turn off the vacuum, unplug it, and remove any blockages. Let the vacuum cool down for at least 60 minutes before restarting.

If your unit is equipped with odor neutralizer technology, make sure the dial is installed properly then turn on unit after 10 minutes post installation.
