General Questions

What temperature should the water be when filling my CarpetXpert tank?

We recommend that you fill the CarpetXpert tank with hot water, but do not use water above 140 degrees fahrenheit.

Can I use the StainStriker in my car?

Yes! The StainStriker is designed for use on upholstery. We don't recommend using it on leather, and we always recommend a patch test on a hidden area of the fabric before using it in visible areas.

Can I use the StainStriker to clean a full room of wall-to-wall carpet?

The StainStriker is designed for spots, stains, and smaller messes on your carpets & upholstery. For cleaning a house full of wall-to-wall carpet, check out the Shark CarpetXpert for the best deep carpet cleaning.

Can the StainStriker be used on hard floors?

The StainStriker is only designed for carpets, rugs, upholstery, & fabrics.

Can I use the StainStriker like a vacuum to clean up dry debris?

The StainStriker is not a vacuum. However, it can be used to pick up wet and dry pet hair with specifically designed hair tools for the task (See Instruction Booklet for more info). We recommend that you always vacuum with a traditional vacuum cleaner first to pick up loose dry debris before cleaning with the StainStriker. The StainStriker is designed for spots, stains, and wet messes on carpets & upholstery.

Can I put the dirty water tank in the dishwasher?

No, do not put the dirty water tank or any other component in the dishwasher. It is not dishwasher safe. Follow cleaning instructions in Instruction Booklet by washing with soap and water and letting air dry.

Does the hose come off?

The hose is not removable. However,

  1. There is an access door where the hose meets the body in case you feel you need to clean out anything in the up duct.
  2. The Rinse & Go feature is designed to make it easy to clean the hose after each use (if cleaning is required).

Does hair end up clogging the hose?

The Pet Hair Extractor Tool, hose and up duct have been designed to avoid clogs.

Here are some Tips to help:

  • Rinse & Go is a great feature to use prior to storing (to clean the hose/ducts to avoid bacteria/odors), but it can be used during cleaning too. Eg if you are cleaning a surface with a lot of hair, you can occasionally and quickly use Rinse & Go to flush hair all the way to the dirty water tank.
  • For heavy hair (wet or dry), we also offer the Pet Hair Extractor tool. While the Stain Eliminator is great on hair and best on stains, the Pet Hair Extractor tool has a wider mouth, and has an onboard hair collection cup that intercepts the hair to prevent it from even entering the hose. Once the cup is filled, its really easy to twist off and dump the hair. Note - this tool is a little less suction power vs the Stain Eliminator Tool, but it's open mouth can suck up larger chunks.
  • If the stainstriker is overloaded with hair we give you the ability to access the tools and system with a removeable window, removeable bristles, and an access door on the bottom of the body to review debris for peace of mind.

Solution Questions

Can I use solutions in my StainStriker that aren't Shark brand formulas?

We recommend that you only use these two Shark brand solutions in your StainStriker: Shark CarpetXpert Deep Clean Pro and Shark StainStriker Oxy Multiplier.

Do I need to use both CarpetXpert Deep Clean Pro and StainStriker Oxy Multiplier formulas with my StainStriker spot cleaner? Why?

We encourage customers to use both CarpetXpert Deep Clean Pro and StainStriker Oxy Multiplier to provide the best solution blend to help remove tough stains. Customers are welcome to use just CarpetXpert Deep Clean Pet for cleaning heavy traffic areas to pick up light dirt and refresh spots. We suggest using Oxy Multiplier on any stained area as it helps to lift the stain out of the carpet/upholstery.

How do CarpetXpert Deep Clean Pro and StainStriker Oxy Multiplier work together?

Both formula combine provide a dual-action stain elimination system to deep clean spots your carpets, rugs, & upholstery

Can I use the StainStriker on all types of carpet and fabrics?

Check manufacturer’s tag prior to cleaning area rugs for any specific cleaning guidelines. We do not recommend deep cleaning delicate rugs (including cotton, wool, silk, antique, natrual hide or leather, or area rugs that do not have a manufacturer’s tag).

What if I use Shark HydroVac Multi-Surface Concentrate in my StainStriker spot cleaner?

We recommend that you only use these two Shark brand solutions in your StainStriker:

  • Shark CarpetXpert Deep Clean Pro
  • Shark StainStriker Oxy Multiplier

Using other solutions may cause harm to your spot cleaner.

How long does the chemical last in the bottle?

We recommend replacing the chemical if it has been opened for longer than 1 year or has had prolonged exposure to very hot temperatures.

Can I store unused chemical in the tanks. How long?

You can store unused chemicals in the tanks.

However, for long term storage we recommend to store unused StainStriker in the StainStriker bottle as storing it in the StainStriker Tank with it on the unit can cause clogging/build up in the machine. Unused CarpetXpert Deep Clean Pet should be discarded and not kept in the CarpetXpert or any tank for prolonged periods of time or in extreme heat.

I sprayed the Oxy formula onto the stain but why is it still not coming out?

For stains that are deep in the carpet/fabric, are older, or are dry stains, spray the OXY multiplier onto the stains and let it sit for 5-10 minutes. This allows time for the solution to penetrate the stain and break it apart so that it can get sucked up by the StainStriker. If you are not able to clean the stain on your first attempt, try again 24 hours later.  Often, with very difficult stains, this proves successful.

Hand Tool Questions

Why am I not getting all of the stain out?

For difficult or deep stains, make sure you are using the black bristle side of the insert on the Stain Eliminator. If the stain is not coming out, spray with OXY Multiplier solution with the hand tool and leave the solution on the stain for 5-10 minutes for it to penetrate and break apart the stain in the carpet/upholstery so that then it can be extracting it out. If this doesn't work, try again 24 hours later.

I can't get into small corners with hand tool. What should I do?

Use the Mini Stain Eliminator which is permanently attached to the hose to get into tight spaces.

How can I get a stain that is in the corner?

Use the Mini Stain Eliminator tool which is permanently attached to the hose to get into tight spaces. You can use bristle inserts which the Stain Eliminator tools come with to scrub deep stains or rubber nubs that come in the box for when using the Mini Stain eliminator on softer or hairy surfaces if scrubbing.

Why won't the stain come out when using the Pet Hair Extractor tool?

Use the Pet Hair Extractor tool to pick up hair on the surface you are cleaning. Then switch to using a Stain Eliminator tool to get deep into the stain and remove it.

Why does the pet mess keep getting into the hose and Dirty Water Tank?

On the side of the cup, there is a Max fill line. Make sure when using the tool, you are keeping it level with the ground and not tilting it forwards or backwards. Also make sure you are not exceeding the Max fill line.

What should I do if there is hair/debris stuck in the front yellow part of the Pet Mess Extractor tool?

If there is hair or debris in the rubber nubs, bring the hand tool over a trash can. Then take the clear plastic window off by unlatching it on the back. Tap the window on the trash bin to remove hair. Then reinstall by first putting the window over the bristles and then pulling it back and latching it in the back until you hear a click.

Why is the suction weak /the Pet Mess extractor tool is not sucking up the mess?

Do not attempt to suction up solid debris with this tool. Ensure that the filter on the inside of the tool is not clogged. First take off the cup, empty the contents and rinse it. Then, use the smaller tab located on the side closer to where the hand tool connects to the Mini Stain Eliminator/hose and pull it to open filter. Rinse filter with water and soap if needed.

Why is the suction not strong anymore or hair is not going in through the hand tool?

Ensure that the cup is not full with pet hair and that the filter is installed inside the tool. Remove the cup and empty into trash. Also brush off any debris on the filter or rinse if wet. Make sure you install the cup and filter fully back onto the tool before using again.

How can I replace or swap out the Mini Stain eliminator bristles/rubber nubs?

Use your fingers to pinch inwards on both sides of the insert to remove. If still not removing, use 2 pens or objects similar to this that are NOT sharp to press down the left and right sides of the insert where it connects (there are 2 small holes on each side where the insert snaps into place) at the same time for it to pop out. Make sure your face or body is not directly in front of the insert in case it comes out quickly.

Why is the carpet/upholstery getting damaged when stain cleaning?

When using the Stain Eliminator or XL Stain Eliminator tool, for softer surfaces and to avoid hair tangling on the hand tool use the yellow rubber fin side of the hand tool insert instead of the black bristles.

The black bristles/yellow rubber fins keep falling off. What should I do?

3.5" or 7" Stain Eliminators: Ensure you are installing the bristles by first putting in the top and then clicking the bottom latch into place. Also make sure that the clear plastic window is on all the way, putting the front on first and then clicking it into place on the back of the tool.  Mini Stain Eliminator (connected permanently to hose): make sure that the bristle insert is fully locked into place on both sides of the tool.

The clear window keeps falling off. What should I do?

Make sure that the clear plastic window is on all the way, latching the front on first and then clicking it into place on the back of the tool.

Why does the cup keep falling off?

On the side of the cup, there is a lock and unlock symbol. Ensure the cup is inserted all the way and fully locked in when rotating it towards the lock symbol.
